Rolling Stock Allocation
Vehicle requirements, Selections of traction type (diesel-, electric-, hybrid-traction), Vehicle maintenance planning
The selection of an optimized rolling stock fleet is the base of economic success for a transportation company. With the help of the software DISPO (developed by IVE mbH) RMCon experts can determine the optimal size of the rolling stock fleet and its assignment on the basis of traffic demand and other requirements.
A decision criterion for this is the optimal size of coaches. In the short distance traffic it is determined by e. g. the requested number of seats and standing room. DISPO generates an exemplary weekly vehicle allocation for different coach sizes. Subsequently the results such as kilometrage, investment costs and operational costs are evaluated and compared. This comparison can answer the question, whether two small coaches are economically more effective than one large coach in most cases.
Besides the optimization of the vehicle number, costs can be reduced by minimizing the number of empty train runs, optimizing the maintenance planning and optimal arrangement of depots with the help of DISPO.
The correlation between vehicle maintenance, maintenance capacity and vehicle availability can be evaluated with the software. Therefore strategies for workshop operation and maintenance can be developed. This feature can e. g. is used to investigate the workshop procedure from a two- to a three-shift system.
